Count the F's in the following:

THE FINISHED FILES ARE
THE RESULT OF SEVERAL
YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC
STUDY COMBNED WITH
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

How many?

3? wrong, but normal

4? good!

5? intelligent!

6? perfect!

why? read again. the brain can't process OF.

Well, keep going.<br />- Martha Argerich

very interesting!  hmmm.  why does everything prove i am average.  i think i'll go on mayla's thread now, although it doesn't really want to make me quit.  just to try harder and maybe double check things.

Don't worry, now you've seen it, the next time you see it you'll be a genius without even counting :)

thanks!  you know i think some teachers do little tests (although i've never been given this one - more verbal questions) to see what level of intellect they are dealing with and teach accordingly.

Words? :)

FUNNY!!!!  No - problems like this that expect you to count the number of times a certain number crops up. Eventually you just get your brain to look at each letter, than the word, and you can spot them easily.

Yay! Perfect score! I skipped the first 'of' but I noticed by the 2nd or so. Those things are great, it's funny how our minds work.

Hmm, whose brain?... ::)

The theory is that OF sounds like OV so you miss the F as you read the text.

Similar to the loose and lose thing,  or the folk who have heard would've being spoken for years and thought they were hearing "would of"

That said, when I read the question I thought "there is one F in the following." so if you see more than that you probably read some other stuff he'd written :)
