Unreachable chords in Chopin's Funeral March
on: December 19, 2005, 12:09:13 AM
Hi.  Does anyone know how to play the two huge RH chords in measure 19 of Chopin's Funeral March (op. 35, 3rd mvmt)?  Here's the sheet music if you want to try them out yourself: https://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/compositions_b/sn35.pdf

I thought I had reasonably large hands too, but this is ridiculous.  Is it just me or are those chords impossible to play?

You play both the Ab and the Gb with the thumb.

By the way, I wonder what you'd think of the 9-note chords Sorabji sometimes uses...  ;)
