The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

Gyorgy Sandor, rip
on: December 19, 2005, 11:00:43 PM
Gyorgy Sandor passed away this pas week.  The world has lost a brilliant pianist and an amazing teacher, and person in general, who believed that if you didn't break a string, you weren't playign it with enough power.  He was 93, and had been giving concerts into his 90s.
Wish we could have an encore.

I'm sorry to hear that...
We lost great pianist, especialy Bartokian..
He worked with him and knew very well nim as a person and a composer. I specialy like Suite op.14 wich ih performed for the first time in the USA at his Carnige Hall debut recital.
He said very useful stuff in the video The Art of the Piano..
Really a loss.. :(

My current teacher studied with Gyorgy Sandor, so i guess that would make  me a student of a student of him, and also a student of a student of a student of Bartok.

At least he lived a long life, enriching others' lives by playing and teaching.

Legendary!

May the man keep playing in the afterlife.

Interesting you should bring this up... I studied for 6 years with Jack Winerock, who was a student of Sandor's.
