Another Audition Thread
on: December 30, 2005, 03:11:55 PM
Hi,
I used to hang around here a lot 'back in the old days' but I havn't posted here in quite a while.
Sorry for yet another audition pieces thread but I'd like some other people's opinions.
For the audition into the Conservatory where I live (Melbourne, Australia) the requirement is for a programme featuring 3 works from different periods. I am a huge fan of rare and obscure works so I'd love to feature such things on my programme. I'm heading towards a musicology/composition major so it need not be a barnstorming 'virtuoso' audition.
Currently my thoughts are leaning towards:
1: Jean-Baptiste Loeillet: (The man who actually wrote the keyboard music attributed to Lully) Suite in G minor (as many or as few of the movements as necessary)
2: Wagner/Liszt/Wittgenstein: Transcription of Isolde's Tod for the left hand alone.
3: Stanchinksy 5 preludes
OR
Alexandreov Poeme op. 9
OR
Mosolov: Deux Nocturnes
OR
Scriabin: Vers La Flamme (Less 'obscure' I know)
What do you think? Any ideas would be most welcome.
Cheers,

Left handed piano music is pimp.
I've only heard two things you are wanting to play (the Scriabin and the Stanchinsky), it is indeed an obscure programme. I'd be interested in hearing some of the other pieces. Creative, original programme.

Never heard any of these pieces ..can you post any recordings of them ? Then it would be much easier to give an opinion.

Hi there.
Thanks for the replys.
Fistly, one correction. The Stanchinsky I meant was the '3 preludes' not the '5 preludes'.
I would post recordings of these pieces...if I had any. Infact, I don't even think recordings of some of these pieces even exist!
I'd be happy to send anyone copies of the sheet music though if anybody is that interested.
...and yes...left hand music is 'pimp'. (It was a toss up between the Isolde's Tod or Zichy's transcription of Der Erlkonig for the left hand alone)
Let me know if anybody wants the music...
cheers,
