Saint Saens concerti
on: December 30, 2005, 08:24:00 PM
I'm totally in love with Saint Saens no.2 concerto and I want to listen to his other four. Does anyone have any recordings that they can share? I'm trying to decide on a concerto to play for next year and I want to get started asap. Thanks in advance.

Hyperion issued all 5 concerti on 3 cd's. It is on Amazon for about £16.

I have now listened to them all and would have to say number 5 is my favourite.

Bizet also transcribed the 2nd Concerto for piano solo. It's worth checking out if you're looking for very catchy and flashy piece.

Definately check out Stephen Hough's recording of the 5th concerto.  I may find time to upload it in the future.

I love the second as well.  I have heard it was Rachmaninov's favorite concerto.

My favorite of the set is the 4th.  I have Hough's recordings, which I love, but I must confess my favorite to be Entremont's.
Money does not make happiness, but it can buy you a piano.  :)

You should listen to all 5 of Saint-Saens' piano concerti.   They comprise a fine cycle.  No's 2, 4 and 5 are among my faves.  :)

I'm rather partial to 1,2, and 4.

for a long time, the second concerto was the only one i had heard.   and i believe the recording i have of it, the first recording i heard of it  , the one by Andre Watts , is incomparable ,  it is just  the best recording of the piece, and even the tchaikovsky concerto no. 1 on the same cd is one of the best  i have heard.
i recently heard  all the cycle of all 5 done by pascal roge.
i think.  no. 4 seems good too .  i really liked no. 5 as well, but no.2 continues to be my favourite.

I'm sure all five concerti are wicked awesome! Which why I'd love someone to tell me where I can listen to a free recording of them. I want to play one of them and I need to listen to them. Please upload your recordings  :'( I'm begging you
