New Piano Market Statistics: Inside the Quiet Transformation of Piano Playing

For those of us who spend our lives on the bench — whether teaching, practicing for a recital, or simply playing for the love of it – the piano has always been a singular concept: wood, felt, strings, and soul. Yet, recent global market reports reveal that the definition of our instrument is expanding and evolving in ways that affect us all. Read more

Alan Steinberger's "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus"
on: September 29, 2003, 01:50:13 AM
This is a fabulous Christmas piece from the "Winterlude" CD, played by Alan Steinberger (popular pianist for many different instrumental CD's).  Does anyone know of this piece, and by ANY chance whatsoever have access to the sheet music?
I would even like to know how to contact Mr. Steinberger himself if possible...

Hi, Alan Steinberger here.

I just stumbled across this forum looking for credits for another project in which I participated (composer/performer on a cute Honda commercial showing a series of cars and their owners).

I have never transcribed my interpretation of "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus" (it was improvised at the session), but I get many emails requesting the sheet music and one of these years I promise to push this project to the top of my list!

I do have several interesting concerts coming up; anyone in the Los Angeles area who would like info on them, feel free to drop me a line.

Hello Alan,
It's a shame that you didn't get to transcribe the piece- it's unbelievable that you improvised it that day of recording!
Its there by chance a Winterlude book out there somewhere (I already have the Piano Winterlude- excellent as well), or were the rest partly improvised also?
Thanks for the info

There's no Winterlude book available that I know of. All of the cuts I did for that album were improvised. In the couple of days leading up to the session I looked for interesting directions I could take these tunes, but certainly didn't write out any piano parts.

I hope someday to do another Christmas album and publish my piano arrangements at the same time, but the thought of all that work is a frightening prospect!
