Again about Marshal/Grandeur
on: January 03, 2006, 01:00:05 AM
I have asked this question before, but I did not get any feedback about the Marshal (also sold as "Grandeur" in Canada). Is it really possible that nobody from the forum has ever seen them before?

My best guess is that these are brands coming out of one of the 8 or so Chinese manufacturers who currently produce pianos with about 36 brand names. They will also build to order with a brand name a dealer pulls out of the air. This doesn't automatically make them bad, but ask the dealer who actually built the pianos and who backs the warranty.

Cheers

Torakusu is right about it being a Chinese piano -- this is what the Pierce Piano Atlas says about Marshal:

"Est. 1970, at No. 1008 Hong Jiao Nan Road, Shanghai, China. Mr. Ma Hui Zhong, a principal of the company, leads a staff of 450 employees. As of 2003, the company is producing about 5000 pianos a year. For more information www.marshalpiano.com"

The Web site works, too, and says the Marshal piano as well as Odin are made by Shanghai Yue Yin Piano Co. Ltd. Looks like they are still being made. Some pretty neat looking upright cabinets, too. Never played one, though.
