Hofmann-Rondo Capriccio-pianoroll?
on: January 03, 2006, 03:45:35 PM
Is the pianoroll of Hofmann playing Mendelsohn´s Rondo Capriccio accurate or is it faster then Hofmann played it?

I have not heard this piece, but piano rolls can be rather inaccurate.

Yes there is, and it is accurate. Though as far as interpretation is it different from other recordings I have heard of him; different rubato, pauses and the roll has a much thicker layer of pedal, the technique displayed is equally stunning though.

The speed is correct in other words?

Here's a sound recording of it by the man himself from 1918, with cuts...you can now hear for yourself. I'll bet there is very little difference between your roll (never heard it) and this recording.
