Small local recital.
on: January 04, 2006, 06:41:25 AM
My music teacher is holding a recital on the first saturday of February (don't know the exact date)... (there are eight students playing) I have fifteen minutes maximum, and I have no idea what I wanna play... HELP!!

What I can play that I would consider for this [mini] recital...

Bach PF  C #  bk1
Ravel Sonatine mvmts 1 and 2
Grieg Sonata (would choose a movement, or two)
Sonate Pathetique (same as grieg)
Chopin Black key etude
Brahms Rhapsody in G minor
Debussy Children's Corner (same as Grieg/Pathetique)
...so ya I'm playing at the end, I don't want to bore the audience, but I don't only want to play one piece... if you have any suggestions, that'd help, since I'm not good at all at picking pieces.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

15 mins?

Do the Bach P&F, followed by the Black Key Etude, followed by 3rd movement of Pathetique. I think that adds up to around 10-11 minutes.

Grieg is only really coherent if all 4 movements are played, and I don't like mixing Brahms with these pieces. Debussy and Ravel would be my alternate, but if you're playing last, what I've posted seems better. Good luck!

I think...

1. Dr. Gradus OR Golliwog's Cakewalk
2. Jimbo's Lullaby OR The Little Shepherd
3. Rhapsody in g minor

You will amuse and lull them with Debussy and then send them of with a bang. I think this set has a nice progression and flow to it. Try it and see what you think. And do let us know what you evantually do and how it goes!  :D
