How perfect?
on: January 06, 2006, 01:16:55 AM
When you are learning a song, to say that you can play that song and are at the point where you perform it, how perfect is it? Do you play every little detail? Do you play what exactly is written on the page? Or do just play it until it sounds good? I learn songs until they sound good to me. Ordinary people thinks it sounds great, but if I played for somebody who can really play piano, they might be sickened by my playing.

Best Wishes,

Lau

If I can play it three times over with a maximum of two mistakes each time, it's good enough for me.

I do the best I can. Whether that is good enough or not is other people's opinions.

it bothers me if i play a wrong note.  i don't know why.  it is stupid.  i should worry about other things.  but, i feel strangely inferior as a pianist if i miss that high or low note - or the one in between.  i'll practice over and over to make sure it doesn't happen probably to the detriment of some kind of real meaning to what i am playing.

I like that good tangible goal. I usually jus play until i think it is good enough (usually means crappy still).

I am not too bothered about wrong notes and beauty is my first and main goal.

If i concentrate on perfection the end result can be without emotion.

yeah, how true.

as long as i can play without tension building up, that means that piece is in my pocket, i can take out anytime. but that would mean numerous performances and countless hours of practise of that particular piece.

performing a piece for the first time is always a risk. no choice.:)

I'm a perfectionist. The good thing about it is; I learn a piece, and I learn every little detail of it until I can memorize it. But sometimes it really annoying; if I play 1 wrong note in a piece, I mostly stop playing and start all over again. This can be really frustrating. Especially when I'm not really warmed up yet and I'm gonna play a quite difficult piece. One mistake means, "I do it over, but now without mistake".

Though, I have to say, I'm focussing more on the "musicality" when I play a piece instead of the fingering. I want to express my feelings when I play a piece. Though, when I play 1 wrong note, something in my mind says: "this isn't right, you have to do it all over again".  :-\
