Poissons Dor Debussy

Hello everyone and best wishes for this new year,

Just a question that I have been asking myself in relation to Images set II and Debussy"s famous Golden Fish piece.

The first motif is traditionnally played using tremolos in both hands simultaneously. However I have found that by splitting the notes between both hands contrary to the indications on the scores I have read, I can achieve (a) all the notes, (b) funnilly enough I can make it more pp on a grand piano (c) faster (d) smoother and more control, (e) can bring out the melody (in thirds) better and the bass notes when the motif starts modulating a bit later.

I am the only one in the world doing this? :-)

I would rank this as Debussy"s trickier works but still I really dont see the point of going to great lengths to follow this particular set up.

Second question: what do people use for the first two notes of the melody: I prefer 35 slide 34, but am looking for better if there is (35 24 is uncomfortable and slows the whole accompaniment down).

Any ideas welcome,

Edouard
