How important is Hope ?
on: January 09, 2006, 07:09:18 PM
And what is it, really ?  Or what is one really hoping for ?

I mean ... for your life, for the world... in general.

I think there is no point in life without it.

for a christian faith and hope go together like sisters.  you kinda need one to comfort the other.  if faith is 'things hoped for' - then we haven't realized them yet.  and may never in this lifetime.  so, that could be depressing if we didn't have faith.

for instance, for me, i will never stop trying to be a really good pianist - but if i never measure up to my teachers standards for me - i'll just     well     die.  i'll become a boozer and ---  wait .  no...i can't do that.  something holds me back.  i think it's realizing that maybe piano isn't everything.  it SEEMS like everything - but i have a  family and responsibilities so i can't just give up.  but - i will secretly do it.  i know i will. (not the booze part - the piano part)

*i think music brings hope to the world because it seems to accompany joy and love.  which are fruits of the spirit, too.

I hope for many things. But hope alone will not get work done.

that's where 'works' come in - 'faith without works is dead...'

of course, i don't think Christ meant piano works.  but, for pianists that is their work mostly.  but, also just being available.  if you see a need - you just help.
