Who's smarter ?
on: January 10, 2006, 07:58:06 PM
Consider the following scenario :

Person A and B have been nominated to prepare a fine dining experience for a very small group of very important persons, and supplies are not a matter of concern.

Person A has very limited knowledge, and has only 1 choice, therefore knows exactly what to do; a delicious meal that has been tested and proven to please.  He prepares his meal with speed, accuracey, and brilliance, pleasing the most cunning of palates.

Person B has seemingly infinte choices and knowledge in mind.  An endless flow of creativity and the capability of creating anything in thought.  However, s/he has such an inflow of thoughts, inspirations, and ideas, and such a knowledge of everything good, s/he cannot decide on what to create.  And stands there in mere thought and deliberation while person A prepares his single choice and serves it.

Person A is considered brilliant, gets hired for the gig, and person B goes home and is thought of as unintelligent and incapable.

I have thought about this a lot.  he he.  Your thoughts :) ?

One of the best ways to measure intelligence is an IQ test. This example tells someone nothing about who is more intelligent.

he he, well just pretend this question is on an IQ test then.  Plus, I don't really see the difference between a scenario like this and an IQ test, but maybe that was your point  ;) .

I'll keep the idea of intelligence out of it, nobody can ever agree on just what it means...

Person A: effective, knows what works and does it. Inflexible, but would over time acquire more knowledge.

Person B : more knowledgable, but indecision makes them useless. Turn the brain juices to learn how to make quick decisions and person B would be superior.

All the great ideas in the world mean dick if you don't do anything.

again..this is yet another battle of subjectivisms...people who vote for A value excecution more than potential...people who vote B value potential more than that sole execution...

A voters are demanding in character...they enjoy a Go approach..like to get things done if a way is there for them

B voters on the other hand take a more philosophical approach...they weigh their options and allow many many windows of opportunity flow through them...this makes for a veryt intricate and diverse individual..but non-productive compared to person A...

this is my analysis..of course im interpreting your cooking dinner situation/scenario as a symbolic comparison of two different types of peoples..i am not saying the speedy cooker isnt philosophical..or the confused cooker is Socrates....just formulating my opinion with what i have...also..the way you presented the situation...it just seemed very symbolic to me...

also..Mr. A would assume Mr. B was lazy, counterproductive, and unorganized...and Mr. B would see Mr. A as hastey, quick to conclude, and one who lacks thinking depth....

i am a Mr. B...and i live with a bunch of A's..life is hard...and they just dont get it ;)

Yes, although I think that B's quick decisions wouldn't help success [for success in some areas] because they'll keep thinking of something else to mess up the plan. A will cook up what B dreams up even if he can't dream it up himself.

It's like Bill Gates and the guys at Xerox parc and places like that.

Person A is getting a job done.  Person B isn't.  Person B can be the greatest mind in the world but no one will care if there's no follow through.
