Do you fit in?
on: January 11, 2006, 06:33:38 AM
simple question...considering your lifestyle, beliefs, ethics, morals, dispositions..and evaluating those around you solely based on posts (of course we all know an internet Alias and personality doesnt exactly convey nor reflect a person genuinely)...

No, I have rarely "fitted in". I just keep quiet about what I really think most of the time and appear to "fit in". So in this superficial, external sense, I am exceedingly clever at "fitting in" and at being seen to "fit in" if it suits me to do so. What I actually think is known to very few people indeed.

"Since childhood's hour I have not been
As others were. I have not seen
As others saw. I could not bring
My passions from a common spring."

E.A. Poe.

That about sums me up.

ted if i say so myself..my fondest memory of you..is when you totally gave the "what the hell??!?!?" expression to pianistimo during one of your threads as she went off into mozart and the like  with her pedantic rants when the thread's primary subject was nothing of that nature...in turn you pretty much expressed your thoughts on how the thread totally hit the dumpster...lemme try to dig it up..lol it was hilarious

for me, fitting in is not about being like everyone else here or being similar. i feel comfortable that i can discuss personal things here and i will be helped. its not really a matter of people agreeing or disagreeing with me, but i feel comfortable that i can be open and i have never been spited by anyone here. in here theres help, humour and hope for me.

so i voted for yes, all the time.

Damn that WAS funny! :D

I picked sometimes. Mostly because I haven't been around too long and don't find a whole lotta time to post. Similar to Ted, I try to keep a lot of my thoughts to myself. There are times where what I'm thiking would just be a little too rude :-X. It's just tact.

I sort of see this place as a bit sheltered, in real life I might seem a bit crude by comparison.

for me, fitting in is not about being like everyone else here or being similar. i feel comfortable that i can discuss personal things here and i will be helped. its not really a matter of people agreeing or disagreeing with me, but i feel comfortable that i can be open and i have never been spited by anyone here. in here theres help, humour and hope for me.

This is a pretty cool place in that way, and there are a lot of admirable people behind the screens. A lot of internet forums are full of jerks taking the opprotunity to be jerks, ever visited a political forum?  :o

But I say fitting in is all about the similarities. A recent example from Christmas visiting some extended family, they'll watch the football game and talk sports and I go "huh?", I talk music and literature and they go "huh?". People I've known for years but because we have so little in common, can barely hold a bad conversation for 5 mins.

This forum comes with a built in similarity, piano. Even if we may disagree, it's something everyone is interested in talking about. Nowhere else do I get a chance to talk music

The whole concept used to be alien to me. I had no idea you could fit in or not.

ehh, husky should definately be nominated as the "dog of the year". that way he'd stick around more. and for those who'd be willing to clean up all his poops and continue feeding him with calcium-enchanced bone thingie, thank you.....

well we're all just fitting in nicely in this thread, due to our inability to fit in 100% of the time haha. i like being a misfit i find it amusing :)

do similarites really matter to fit in? its like wearing rocker clothes to fit in a rock group i dont feel the need to do that here.

most intelligent things nowadays should be based upon diversity of peoples interests and we should all try thinking about other peoples interests and helping them.

if that makes any sense. i feel at home here because there are loads of people here who help me out, and dont care what habits i have or what i like to do on a friday night.

yeah.  siberian. what do you say to that!  what if we started montoring everything you did to see if it 'fit in'  - you know, kind of like big brother.  we'll check out what you do on friday nights, too, and if you don't play the piano you're in big trouble.

when were you in sydney?? no i wasn't around circular quay, i had already decided that i refused to go out across the bridge because it's an absolute b*tch getting home on the trains and that's where most my friends were going so i was like screw that and stayed at home and partied with my sis- pigged out on sour gummy worms and marshmallows haha!!

went to sydney quite a bit. last time i was there was on xmas2004-new year2005. went to darling harbour saw the festivity there and was quite amused, and walked directly to harbour bridge area...whoaaa what a massive landscape of people...so we squeezed and squeezed...

oh, food wise,  i miss fish and chips the most... :( and tartar sause goes nicely with them. or just plain hot chips with gravy....awwww, yuuuummm. btw, i like my hot chips well cooked.

( hot chips=french fries, for those who dont use the term hot chips, heh )

oh yeah 2004/5 new years saw that one we went down to blues point (north sydney) and had a  lovely time watching the 500 million underage teenagers being exceptionally drunk. and then waiting for the giant ball thing under the bridge to explode or something and it just sat there- we stood there for like 15 minutes after midnight going 'is that it? dow we go home now?'

yeah fish n chips are goooood!! mmm feel like some now...
