Of these, Ashkenazy, Cortot and Rubinstein in no particular order. I have always enjoyed Horowitz' Chopin playing too, although it often is more about Horowitz than Chopin...

Daniel Barenboim 1982 Recording
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

Pires is stunning!
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

Rubinstein cannot be matched. Since he was a very succesful composer himself he can make very deep interps. for the music. He is also Polish Like chopin. 0o0o0.

Where the hell is Pollini?

You realize there is a difference between Arthur Rubinstein and Anton Rubinstein, right?

apparently not, unless he is kidding.

I like the way Hofmann and Cherkassky play the nocturnes, since they have such great sounds and tonal control and they shape the phrases exquisitely. Also Hofmann's treatment of the fioritura passages is wonderful.
