Rach, Gould

   Hey I'm thinking of learning a piece after I take a big upcomming exam. Sort of like a way to relax after the test is over.
   I'm thinking Rachmaninov prelude op23 no2. Its short, so thats good since I probably only have 2 weeks after my exam. Anyone familiar with this one? How would the difficulty compare with Chopin's Heroic polonaise?
   I was also thinking Glenn Gould's La Valse transcription would really be awesome to play, but its a long piece, and it seems superhumanly difficult. Plus, I don't think I can find the sheet music for it. Does anyone know if a published version exists?

I would say that Op.23, No.2 is right up there in difficulty and is a great piece.

Both pieces are listed in Grade 10 RCM.

Thanks for the input. When you say both pieces, which pieces do you mean? The rach and the chopin, or the rach and the gould?

I was talking about the Rachmaninoff and Chopin.

RCM = Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto) - Grade 10 is the highest grade before the Associate level (ARCT) or teachers level.

the heroic polonaise is ARCT, i think you're mistaking it for the military polonaise which is grade 10.

You are correct in your assumption. I guess an opus number would have avoided the confusion.
