Fate
on: January 19, 2006, 12:43:44 AM
Ever had that feeling?  Like you're just walking through something that has already been done or decided.  You appear to have choices, but maybe not and maybe it's already set up and maybe your choices are controlled, already determined, or already known.

Do you believe in fate?  Do you think you truly control your actions or that they are influenced?

sometimes i look at my piano teacher and think his life was 'fated' for piano.  he's so talented.  but talent is simply a gift from God - therefore, imo, not a fate per se - but a gift that become apparrent.  when you tell a person you think they're 'destined for performance ' it's more that you think it's their talent.

if everything was predetermined for us - there would not be free will and choice.  someone would have already decided everything from the beginning.  the only thing predestined is Christ's messiahship and his return (and the prophecies that relate to it) and possibly the powers that will be trying to take control.

Makes me wonder.  It wouldn't have to be "the gods" so much as another individual influencing and shaping your choices.

Y'know, only in hindsight does anything seem like fate. Probably because the past has already happened, the past by nature seems to have been "written". You couldn't imagine any other way because you know what happened.

I don't like the idea of fate, not very useful. Seems like a lazy notion "I'll just do my thing and see what fate brings".

I figure, if one does nothing to influence their future they could call it destiny. What Bob said about others influencing your choices, it's letting others decide for you. A person is better off to take things into their own hands. In hidsight it will probably look like fate, from here it looks like infinite possibilities.

Sure we can! When you're faced with a choice, you stop for a second, then think about it ;D.

Behavior is a little different, most behaviour is unconscious, but you can change behavior as well.

Ok I'll go write something now called my 5th symphony.  I'll let fate decide the opening motif  :D
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
