uses for plasma
on: January 19, 2006, 03:15:32 PM
did you know that cold plasma is used to make the fibers in disposable diapers more absorbent, and makes ink lettering stick to plastic potato-chip bags?

I did not, but must admit that my life is the more enriched since being advised.

Does the enrichment come from the knowledge about the increased absorbancy of the diapers?  I know I was holding back before and feel I can really let the liquid flow now that I'm more comfortable with capacity characteristics of the fibers.

Or was it the knowledge of the ink lettering on potato chip bags?  Sorry, no witty comeback for that...

it might have environmental impact (less diapers to buy/throw) - if you let jr.  sag the diaper.  of course, if they completely fill it - the diaper may tend to just drop completely off or severly hamper movement of the baby.

as for the pototo chip bag - i wonder about that one.  why use plastic in the first place.  i thought it was environmentally a bad idea.  of course, maybe plasma is also bad environmentally.

as i see it, it comes down to quality made the old fashioned way - (cloth, paper) or new fangled things that kinda make you wonder what is going on.  for instance licorice used to be in the rope form and taste good.  now, it's twisted and sometimes made into laces.  it also tastes terrible.  too many chemicals.  ok.  you may wonder plasma/licorice connection?  there is none.  that's what plasma is all about.

What do you mean by plasma? Plasma is superheated gas. It is another state of matter. It requires lots of energy to create plasma, the only natural source is lighting. There is also blood plasma which is the liquid part of the blood, composed mainly of water. What plasma are you talking about? ARe you sure it is really plasma?

For an awful moment, i thought she was back.

Obviously her doctors do not feel she is yet ready.

Other uses for plasma--plasma cutter. Even 50Amper plasma cutter will go through 2" steel like a knife through the butter.
Have you ever seen those beautiful vintage iron fences or gates on the houses of aristocracy of 16-19 centuries? Sometimes it would take over a year to make those. The plasma cutter head installed on CNC engraver or router will do the most elaborate pattern in 12'x6' gate in roughly an hour.

Yet another use--plasma speaker. High voltage with carrier frequency of about 10-27MHz, modulated by audio signal will make the cleanest massless tweeter, which plays up to 250KHz.

Best, M
