Any organists here?
on: January 21, 2006, 01:03:31 AM
I just started playing organ (and taking lessons) in october and love it, though it is frustrating at times. i am playing some chorale preludes from orgelbuchlein, Wachet auf, some hymns and pedal studies by lars nilson.

I am not an Organist, but i do play often.
I can just about cope with the Bach-Little Preludes and Fugues. I must admit that I don't find it mixes well with piano practise. My piano has a very stiff action, so playing an instrument soon after with no key pressure, I find difficult.
To avoid having to spend too much time in church, I bought a home organ with full pedal board. Only 2 keyboards and 30 stops, but it sure throws out a nice sound.

I have just started organ lessons too! My piano teacher's husband got an Oxford organ scholarship and he has given me 2 lessons so far... and they are very fustrating!!! The accuracy of holding down certain notes etc is extremely annoying bcause in piano you can just use the sustain pedal, but on organ timing is everything!!! Im finding the pedals OK to work with... not too hard but then again im playing Bach BWV 549... holding down notes makes it really difficult for me cos im used to just playing with tonnes of pedal...
What do other people think of the note durations etc...?
