why 180
on: January 21, 2006, 03:09:22 PM
why did you change it back to posting once every 180 seconds. That is crap. 60 was bad enough, but come on.

Yes, it is "crap" but it is only to limit the harm of spam attacks such as earlier today when the forum was filled with extremely offensive posts.

I couldn't agree more.  No reason to punish those of us who haven't done anything wrong.

Well...  I mean like... the people that haven't done anything wrong.  I don't really fit into that category ^^;;

Every forum has spammers. Putting a limit on posting just means they have to make the one post they make a good one. NO other forum I've visited has such a weird limit and they all seem to function just fine.

Plus 180 seconds just means they can only do half as much damage. It wont stop them.

Think about it logically.

IF they were truly immature enough to wait 90 seconds for a spam attack, there's nothing in the world you can do to prevent such happenings.

The forum was spammed by someone "working" a few hours to fill the forum with a large number of long posts containing porn and very obscene sexual texts.
During the following six hours after this happened the posting limit was set to 180 seconds to limit further attacks while we had no one here that could watch the forum.
It is a rather time consuming job to clean this up, especially when they are inside topics and people has replied to those posts. I can assure you we have better and more interesting things to do over here.

I couldn't agree more.
Are you aware that the  limit was 180 only for some hours and then decreased to 90? It was back to 60 a few days later.
If some of you have suffered from this I am terribly sorry, but it was one of several actions taken as a temporary state of alert.
If this really can prevent the harm to "half as much damage" for our 3000 daily readers I think it is worth it. Even if I think about it logically.

I don't see what's so funny about it, any fool can copy-cut from a random porn site.

Please, it's just some random copy-pasting from sites. It's really lame and not remotely funny.

Do you think the piano teachers who have recommended this website to their pupils (not to mention those kids' parents) care whether you find it "arrausing" or not?

It is strange, this assumption that a person would go through the trouble of creating another account just to wreak havoc when one's IP is glued to each post- no matter the name of the account.

Is there a way to block their IP address and user name if they spam like that?

Or let members "earn" their way to a lower or no time limit?  Something like after 100 posts, you have no time limit maybe?

the names get banned not IP's.

I also plead the fifth about the spamming. I simply don't recall. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
