grand soft pedals question
on: January 22, 2006, 07:17:54 AM
On grand pianos, when you use the soft pedal the keys move slightly to the right ? i am correct yes, the grands ive played on they all have.
So why do i never see the keys move in any of my piano videos where they play on grands, i have never seen them move, does this mean the pro's never use soft pedal, what? i thought as a concert pianist you should use the soft pedal to get more range of dynamics and colors in the music ? can someone explain

When you step on the
una corda
pedal, the keyboard shifts very little, perhaps on the order of 1/8 inch (~3 mm). You don't even feel like you have to consciously adjust your hand position for this minute amount of shift. The movement is just too small to be captured on videos.
