Rachmaninoff Prelude in Bb major, Op. 23 No. 2
on: January 23, 2006, 12:48:37 PM
Hey everyone..
Has anyone played this prelude? For one of my pieces for this year i asked my piano teacher if i could play the g minor prelude (op 23 no 5), and she told me to learn this one instead. I think it is a fantastic piece, very strong and powerful with a beautiful melodic line in the middle section. I think this piece might be one of those underplayed beauties. Any thoughts/experiences?

I am SOOOO sick of this piece - aka I played it so many times. afterwards a teacher said he never wants to hear a piece in Bb again!
It's fun (at first), listen to Kissin palying at at the proms as one of the encores - bloody awesome (tis why I learned it).
It requires a lot of careful voicing (left hand balance, and usual Rachmaninovian huge chords). the middle section is rather tricky to pace.
enjoy

Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.
