Tuning course by correspondence
on: January 25, 2006, 05:41:51 PM
I am a piano teacher but I was considering expanding my business with tuning and piano servicing.

I see several courses by correspondence, the most interesting being the American School of piano tuning and Randy Potter course.

The former is cheaper ($1300 versus $1700), but the latter seems more comprehensive and complete.

Anybody has learned through one of these? Recommandations? Thanks.

www.strobosoft.com  looks interesting, too.

here's an interesting article, too:

https://community.middlebury.edu/~harris/piano.html

this is a sort of do it yourself - whenever you want, type tuning.

i found it interesting that really good tuners usually tune twice in succession in those spring or fall times (when weather changes).  if you get a tuner that doesn't do that - you won't get as good or long lasting a tuning, imo.

here's one of five lectures that is mentioned at the end of that article about timing:

If I may plug my online piano tuning tutorial:
The tutorial features the entire tuning downloadable as MP3 files, as well as pages of advice and explanation.  It is free, and I don't have anything to sell.  Check it out if you are interested:
