I got this rephrase from a chapter I read in a music book.


Can any one explain how 4notes/0.5s for RH + 3notes/0.5s for LH projects an illusion of 12 notes per half second?

If both hands strike the first note simultaneously, you will hear 6 (irregularly spaced) notes in the half second. One way to practise this is to divide the half-second into 12ths; the hands will play only the bold numbers:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12

Thus notes are heard on 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10

This rhythm can be approximated by the saying: Pass the golden butter.

Is this from the same book as your question about time signatures? Because I don't think their explanations are very clear...

It's quite a famous ebook used to be mentioned in this forum....

Piano Practice Handbook by CC Chang


Personally, I think it's a book filled with lots of precious ideas that cannot be easily found.... However, sometimes it's difficult to conceive..... It should have a section dedicated for absolute piano beginner so s/he can begin with the best practice......
