help choosing a piece.

i have a preformance at college and another concert and i need help chosing pieces.

i'm leaning toward thalbeg operatic fantasia but i don't know because the audience are not familiar with classical music and i'm afraid they won't like the fantasias because they are long.

or maybe some of medtner's fairytales i heared samples of some of them and i liked them
could someone recomed a flashy one?



any suggestion is welcomed.

I would be interested to hear what effect a Thalberg Fantasia would have on an audience.

They are not all long and some are well under 10 minutes. Some of the L'art du Chant are considerably less in length.

I submit an audience not familiar with classical music, would be charmed to bits.

Famous Operatic themes lighly coated in a shower of arpeggios. Sounds good to me.

I've played Thalberg's Casta diva arrangement at recitals twice (on both cases as a contrast to something flashy preceding it) and it went down well. Of course, by Thalberg standards, it's not a hard piece; and if you'd prefer something more showy, there's plenty to choose from..

I am so pleased to here that. I played the Nocturne Op28 at a very small gathering and that went down well.

Still working on the Op51 Seriminade, which i consider to be amongst his best.

thalbergmad as a thalberg specialist which fantasia do you recomend to impress the audience, it has to be less than 10 minuts.

I would play either of the 2 Verdi transcriptions Op77 or Op78.

Easy on the ear.

A bit tough on the fingers in places.
