Schubert G Major Sonata
on: February 06, 2006, 07:27:01 PM
Hello, All!
I'm preparing to play a recital that includes the Schubert G Major Sonata, D. 894, and am thinking about recordings. Specifically, I'm regretting that Curzon did not, but more to the point, there is an out of circulation recording made by Lupu, and I wondered where a good source might be to find that recording.
Thanks!

heard Volodos recording, and it was...(got the cd at home for 2 years now). And one Month ago i did not even know that he was playing this Sonata on that CD...
Got a Sokolov recording for christmas, fell in love with that sonata, and then found out that i already got a recording of that piece,....But the Sokolov one is 10times better!!!
How long did it take you to learn g major, good enough to perform it ?
i started A-major D959 Summer last year, its still not ready, maybe two more months...Was a lot of work! But really worth it!!
Wish you good luck with your performance

I took 4 - 5 months to learn it.
I was taking lessons at the time, so was practicing about 2 - 3 hours per day.
I shall never forget the 10,000 different levels of pianissimo my teacher required for the first movement alone.
Brilliant Sonata.
