Etudes
on: February 07, 2006, 08:07:51 AM
HI :-)

I have to chose a programm for my technical exam in Piano this year and for this I need (besides lots of scales, arpeggios, etc  :'( ) to play a "Preludium und Fuge" by Bach and 2 Etudes. I already decided on the Bach and on one of the Etudes:

1. Preludium und Fuge N.6 in D minor (Book 2)
2. Etude No. 13 in Ab minor Op. 72 from Moszkowski

Now I still need a third Etude. I would like to find something which sounds a bit "virtuosic" (don't know if this is how one says in English) but not too difficult. First I thought of some of the "easier" Chopin Etudes, but than I decided not to play something the Jury hears almost every day ....

Any help or suggestions???

Thanks a lot for any answer,

Desdemona

Have a look here for some ideas:

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,11179.msg117263.html#msg117263
(extensive list of technical exercises and etudes)

If you want something that will surprise the examiners, these are very rarely heard (and very beautiful in my opinion) – they are taken from the lists above to narrow it down somewhat:

Benjamin Godard – Etudes enfantines op. 149 (book 2 especially – book 1 is too easy, and books 3 and 4 are not so nice)

Enrique Granados – Six Expressive Studies

Edward Macdowell – 12 Etudes op. 39

Ernst Toch

10 recital studies op. 56
10 concert studies op. 55

Alexander Scriabin

Etudes:

Op.2 No.1
Op.8 No.1 - 12
Op.42 No.1 - 8
Op.49 No.1
Op.56 No.4
Op.65 No.1 – 3

Sergei Bortkiewski

Etudes op. 15
Etudes op. 29

Charles Valentin Alkan

Etudes op. 35
Etudes op. 39
Etudes op. 76

Mendelsohn
3 Etudes Op. 104

Villa-Lobos
Estudo Ondulante (Etude)

York Bowen, 12 Studies, Op 46

I hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
