Religion or free speech?
on: February 08, 2006, 04:02:26 AM
Should newspapers be able to publish cartoons that take the piss out of religions?

Should editors make a decision not to publish a cartoon because they know it'll provoke a riot?

In the light of the fracas that's broken out over the Danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed, should papers republish the cartoons purely to make a statement about press freedom, even if the cartoons are crap?

Is this an issue about the right of religions not to be criticised or is it an issue of the right of the public to have a free press?

What do you reckon?
Bach almost persuades me to be a Christian.

Whatever is decided it needs to be enforced for all religions. Christianity can have some cheap shots thrown at them at times, but because we don't burn down embassy's life goes on like nothing happened. If you say it is wrong to publish things of that nature, make it wrong no matter who is getting made fun of.

I personally don't think the cartoon is that bad. In fact, I think the Muslims (at least the ones protesting violently) are proving the cartoon correct.
