haha yes the piano is the best no doubt about that. :P

You should get a good electronic piano that has the same touch as the real thing, and maybe after using that for a long time switch to a sweet grand

Nah thats excellent. When i first started learning the piano it was extremely difficult so i had to sticky tape the notes on the piano and even highlight the keys with a high lighter pen to learn my pieces.

The touch of the keyboard is very important to develop good technique, the heavy the keys are the better.

I remember seeing that model when I first looked for a cheap beginner keyboard. I really hated the light functionality on it. It just screamed tacky.

I had a "learning" function on my first keyboard similar to what the light-up keyboard does. All I can say is they are useless. They are overly complicated and they will slow you down terribly.

My distaste for gimmicy keyboards aside, any low end keyboard will do. Some points to consider:

- Number of keys. Full-sized keyboards are 88-keys. Make sure you have at LEAST 61 keys. The more the marrier.

- Touch sensitivity. On keyboards less than 500$, touch sensetivity isn't anything like a real piano, but it will at least keep it in the back of your mind that piano requires finess.

- Key action. This is how the keyboard "feels". For low-end keyboards, this isn't really an option, but if you go higher in price, nicer keyboards will feel and respond more like the real thing.

Good luck with your purchase =-)

casio px100. that's what i would buy in your situation.
or yamaha p 60.
check them out on the net.
for a bit more you can check out the rolands, korgs, and higher end yamahas.
but the casio px100 is very affordable and might serve you well.

I can't comment on the px100, but I have a P60 myself. I love it to death. It was worth every penny.

I've only just begun learning piano too, and I used Bastien's "Piano for Adults - Book 1" to get started.

I finished the book in around 6 weeks and it was a great introduction. Nothing to fancy, but enough to get you going.
