What do you think of beta blockers?
on: February 13, 2006, 12:16:49 AM
I recently tried inderal for the first time (took it shortly before a lesson), and there was definitely a significant decrease in my shaking/ racing pulse/ nervous responses. However, I did feel a little bit drowsy and apathetic. I suspect, though, that I'd be more mentally alert to begin with in a higher stress situation like a recital or competition, so maybe things would balance out better. For anyone else who's tried a beta blocker-type drug, what has been your experience? For those who haven't, what do you think of the idea? Just curious...

hello!!

I´m thinking in trying Inderal in my next audition! My teacher says it is fantastic! she says it makes you fell really calm and no shaking hands! So I think I´ll try! Your symptoms may have ocurred because its your first time thaking it, don´t know...! My mother has already tried it in a conference and she says it really calms you, you know, no trembling voice, no shaking hands, very little nerves at all and the most important of all: don´t turns you apathetic or drowsy!!  :)

try another time!  :D

Like all drugs they have side affects :-X

I wouldnt recommend taking them every lesson. The more you perform the less nervious u become. My hands use to shake like crazi when i performed now they ain't as much. Maybe only take these drugs when ur performing in front of a audience or taking a exam but dun take them every lesson of piano  :D

Soon enuff if u keep taking these drugs u become so dependant of them that u have to take it always when ur on the piano and the affect of these drugs decrease the more times u take them which means u got to take more. Lets say ur at ur friends house and u forgot ur pills  :o. and ur thinking "Relax take a chill pill 8)"
