Can someone help me with this part?
on: February 15, 2006, 10:21:54 PM
I'm learning a piece of Final Fantasy X Piano Collections, called "People Of The North". The sheet music of it is available on serveral websites, but the sheet music is a little bit different compared to the recording. Though, that wasn't a problem, I just changed some parts while playing by ear. But now I'm busy with learning a part where I just can't get the timing right if I play the part how it's written in the sheet music. I tried to figure it out by ear, but this part is, for me, too difficult to figure out by ear.

My question is: can someone look at this part of the piece and tell me how I should play it?

The part where I'm talking about:

A recording of the piece:

Scroll to about 3:03 minutes in the piece, to hear the part I'm talking about.

I really want to complete this piece cause I like it so much, I just have a little struggle with this part... Too bad the sheet music is a little bit different, else it wasn't really a problem.

Thanks in advance!

Greetings.

First off, learn slowly and corrently the left hand. It is arpeggios so make sure to practice both the wrist actions(that is transfer the strenght from one finger to the next towards the fifth finger), also practice for finger exactness. This is an arpeggio so play it like an arpeggio. I am a student by the way. Practice the right hand part separately then, slowly and with precision, keeping everything legato. I haven't yet listened to the piece, but my first impression off of the sheet music is that it might be played legato. The chord with the second you might want to use the first finger on both D and E. Again practice until memorized. Practice the sixteenth notes slowly and legato. Secure a good fingering on all of the notes. Ask if you need more clarifying. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for your reply and your good explanation debussy symbolism!  :)

But my problem really is that I want to play that part like it's played in the recording. The sheet music is a bit different compared to the recording, so what I meant was: how to play that part like it's played in the recording?

But you're very right, I need to practise more slowely... I often want to play things at speed to early (bad habbit of mine).
