on: February 17, 2006, 08:18:47 AM
Hey Peeps,
I'm a newbie for ARCT.
My piano teacher and I are currently struggling with which piece I should play for my list E... She told me to pick an Etude from Chopin..but some pieces are just too fast for me ( I personally don't really like to play fast songs...lol) ...lol Any suggestions?! Or just any suggestions for my list E? Plz help!~ Thanks!~ :-*

PS: I dont care if its fast or not anymore..lol just something i could manage... ;D

Well I think you would be able to handle Chopin's Op.10, No.3, Étude in E major. I am working on my Grade 10, but I've learned this piece several years ago and it's not too hard with the exception of a couple spots that will need some extra time and effort to perfect.

Good luck.

Cheers

Chopin wouldn't be on list E, unless you accidentally meant your Etude selection.  List E is the late 20th century selection, and for that I suggest Samuel Barber's Excursions all the way.  They are so fun and the third is so beautiful, you wouldn't never guess it was List E!  If you don't like fast, do numbers 2 and 3.  I'm choosing numbers 3 and 4.  The only tricky bit with number 3 (which is the most beautiful, imo), is the polyrhythms everywhere - 7 against 8 and whatnot.  Look on Amazon for a sample of them.

I totally remember ;).  I also remember that you were the lucky duck who got to do her grade 10 exam in the winter session, while I, on the other hand don't get to start my ARCT stuff until after my spring grade 10 exam this June, if I pass :P!  My pieces are finally starting to sound rather decent now, but still need ALOT of polishing.  How did you exam go?  Were they way more strict in their marking then grade 9?

Hmmmmmmmm.........  I found the etudes the hardest to pick for as well.  You don't like fast, eh?  That makes it hard because the piece I picked is not only fast but in no key whatsoever!  It's Morel's Deux Etudes de Sonorite, no. 2.  Very, very, cool, but you either hate it or love it!  Perhaps you would like some of the Scriabin etudes?  He is very similar to Rachmaninoff's style.  Do you have the syllabus?  What I found helpful, was going through the syllabus, and googling the titles.  At Amazon, they almost always give little samples of the pieces about a minute long.  And my friend had oodles of recordings on his computer that he let me listen to, and then I ended up picking the one that I heard a girl play last year.  It's hard to find a pretty, and slow etude on that list!  If you like really off the wall, rhythmic stuff I can try to send you a copy of my etude, but I'm thinking you won't like it, because, it's well, off the wall ;D.  But yeah, try checking out Chopin, Debussy, and Scriabin.  They might be up your alley.
Hope you find one you like soon.  It's not an easy task, I know.

Oh yeps my exam...it wasn't too bad i guess? lol...The adjudicator was EXTREMELY NICE!~ She kept on talking to me. lol and like for some funny reason, the pedal part of the piano started to squeak and it was so annoying cuz i was like playing my songs and it kept on squeaking everytime I pressed it...and she asked me if it bothered me and she told me her student's experiences and we started to chat LOL...yea...it was like the best/fun-nest piano exam I've ever encountered in my life. LOL~ And! Also, I had this adjudicator b4 wen I did my grade 1? or 3 something like that...so it's really really really cool that this occured!! there's alot more that happened but i think I should send an actual emao bak to you. lol...u just um...hang on lol...

And Hurray!~ I've picked my etude, the one that Allthumbs mentioned. Yeps.. lol but I still need a LIST E.  PLEASE HELP ME lol...my piano teacher is struggling...lol

Thanks Eliza, I'll be waiting for me email!  Definately, totally, go with the Barber Excursions for your List E.  Type, Barber Excursions no. 3 into the google bar, then click on a link that takes you to Amazon.  Listen to the samples of all 4 of them, because you have to pick 2.  Then let me know what you think, okay?
