I first wanted to ask to be more specific. What happens if I die tomorrow? Many of the events that will happen tomorrow are similar to the events that happened today.

Then I wanted to post "What do you think" since you start a topic on something with no content to base any discussion on. But then I saw someone beat me to it, at least I thought.

they collect your body and take it to a mortuary. it's quite yuk actually.
they probably do a post-morterm there to determine the reason for your death.
then you are given a burial and live in a coffin for eternity.
or until another civilisation discovers your bones and takes them to a meseum  or something. and like many other people you become famous only after your death.

i dont know what happens to your soul or spirit or whatever it is called or thought to be. i get irritated when people are like "you go to heaven or hell and there's a court room where you are judged for your sins etc" thats so 2000 years ago.
no person will ever know what it is like to die.
i think it's cruel to have such an unknown in life. so i dont know what happens after you die, but the suspense sure is killing me. ;)

i can't help but post here, even though i haven't died and can't verify it except through faith.  butterflies are here because we are given one insect that goes into a cocoon that  reminds us of our tomb and actually comes out again more beautiful than before.  because of the butterfly - and my faith- i think God's word is true.  rom. 6: 23 the wages of sin is death (eternal) but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  what is eternal life like.  i haven't a clue, really.

i just find that the whole shroud of turin thing is quite interesting.  they had a pbs special on it - and i'm curious if it was a sort of x-ray that melded the facial features of christ onto the shroud.  he's the only one that has been resurrected so far, so we have his record of what will happen when we are resurrected.  (unlike david acts 13:36 - for david, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep, and was laid among his fathers, and underwent decay...) we know that God takes our spirit - because many saints when they died (as well as Christ himself) asked God to take their spirit (soul, whatever) and raise them up again at the resurrection of the dead.

as i understand it, there are two resurrections - the first resurrection (over which death has no power in rev. 20:6) and another resurrection of all people who have ever lived (rev. 20:12)  also, 20:5 mentions "the rest of the dead did not come to life (in the first resurrection) until the thousand years were completed. this is the first resurrection."  the thousand years are a milleneum that as we understand from the bible is the beginning of God's rule - first on this earth before the second resurrection.  we will turn swords into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks...nation will not lift up sword against nation - and neither shall they learn war anymore.

so when everyone is resurrected after the thousand years, the earth will look totally different than they remember.  it will be at peace.  God is a God of mercy.  i think people will notice the difference and choose life and not death.  there are many places that say we will be judged by our own words and that God keeps books on us - and those books (of our words and actions) will be His guidelines of action.  yet, Christ has died for all.  so there is no action worse than just saying 'i don't care' and dying eternally because we blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

maybe i speak too much of things i haven't seen yet. but, as i understand it - that's faith. the first resurrection is filled with people who choose God now (and accept rewards of varying degrees of rulership - over 5 , 10 whatever cities) and people who choose God after seeing him - and accept rulership.  those that don't - or their name is not written in the book of life - and do not accept mercy or ask for it are burned up (gone - eternally).  rev. 20:15.  that's why it is called 'the second death.'  rev. 20:6 says 'over these, the second death has no power.'  so if you are blessed now to understand and love God - you won't be worrying about the second death but rather the first resurrection.  does that make sense.  i don't understand it fully - but i believe Christ's words and God's words that in the beginning He was.  How He was everlasting to everlasting - i'll not understand with this finite brain and finite way of thinking - but when i am changed - i'll expect that He will share the information so we can comprehend it more fully.

was just reminded of acts 7:59 where saint stephen was stoned "and they went on stoning stephen as he called upon the Lord and said, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit! and falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, 'Lord, do not hold this sin against them! and having said this, he FELL ASLEEP.

i think these words are carefully chosen in the bible.  we know that we decay - but to our minds - it is only a moment before we are resurrected - so it's just like sleep.  at least that's how i understand it.

I'm coming to like the idea that when we die, we just die... It's been fun, the end, and now my bones will be a home for worms. ;D

Not to say that nothing matters, contrary, I find the notion of death as final to be very motivating to lead a good life! If this is my only shot, I want to make sure I've made a difference, left something good behind. Which makes me think of all the past lives who've cumulatively brought humanity to where we are today. One way or another, each individual who's led a good life has contributed to what we have today.

I've also been entertaining the idea that we can live on, in a sense, through our children. Which is true genetically speaking, you're children will be 50% of the genes that make you who you are. At the very least a person could use their time to make conditions better for their children.

I'm inclined to believe there's some sort of universal force (God), but that bible stuff is dubious, doesn't seem very well thought out. Taken figuratively, maybe.

If there is a God entity in an afterlife, do you think it would care if a soul called it by another name?

My friend came up with a very interesting theory the other day...

What if we are all dead..? Then when we die we are actually being born... just free of our bodies. Then when you give birth you are actually just killing someone, and when you kill someone just actually giving "birth" to them.. or bringing them alive...?

I dont wanna be born!! ;)

christians are supposed to be dead to sin.  making their bodies alive to Christ.  that's sort of similar.  and, if you are baptized into Christ - you are baptized into life and not death.  sin = death.

You know what? I just dont know. And right now, I am not going to know, as I am not dead. I know how valuable life is and I am not going to sit here spending half my life contemplating what happens when you are dead. I dont know, I cant know, I wont know until I get there so what the hell?? I have practising to do.

This is what I believe.  But it doesn't mean sometimes I don't have doubts and entertain the possibility of there being some sort of afterlife.

I [try] to think otherwise, but I believe that once you die, your gone forever.  I cannot think of a logical reason that your mind would leave your body.  You heart is stopped, no blood flow to your brain, YOUR MIND IS GONE FOREVER, YOUR DEAD FOR GOOD   ;D  kinda harsh, but it's the way i see it... i don't like this, but i can't come to believe otherwise
