Sooo.. I think I broke a key on my Yamaha Clavinova
on: February 21, 2006, 04:59:08 PM
The D an octave above middle C sticks like there's no tommorow. When you depress it it won't come back up, you have to pull it up. It doesn't sit straight either, it is tilted slightly to the left (lower notes) side of the keyboard. It's most likely a problem with the mechanism or something.

Any ideas of how I can try and fix it without paying money to have someone else try and fix it?

Hmmmmm...

Apparently it's a fairly common issue with CVP 207's.

Mine's a 107, I wonder if it had the same defect. I called the piano tech, he seemed to have seen the problem before.

my teacher has an old clav. he is quite the piano technician to, and he worked out most of his clav problems. he told me that the keys are held up by little springs that evetually weaken and cause the keys to sag. anyway, he changes those when it happens. hope you sort out whatever it is.

If you wish to fix it yourself, then just buy a new D key from Yamaha (or a repair shop) and replace it .  The key is cracked back where the pivot is.   A common defect with your piano.  Don't attempt unless you are  quite mechanically inclined.

I had the same problem , adn it was the D too, the one an octave above the middle C as well.
Here's how to fix it without buying anything.
U're going to have to OPEN the piano, i know there's a sticker that says that you should'nt , however it's super mega easy, and you won't harm the piano.
So open the cover, and basically take everything that's out of the way out . ( don't worry it's very easy to reassamble clavinovas, trust me) . the reason that D key stays depressed when pushed is because Either, It's slightly broken  or the connection to the hammer is a bit Crooked. Either way, all u have to do is Just take that D key and replace it with another   D Or G key. preferable in the lower register wher you might not use those as much.
I had exactly 2 D keys that stayed depressed , I was so ANNOyed and so pissed, it was impossible to practice.  I opened it up and me and my friend fixed it.

I believe this case happens alot with yamahas, Sometimes you get a good one, sometimes a defective one. It's all a gamble.
Good luck, let mek now how it turns out.
