Need help with Czerny (have to play one)
on: February 23, 2006, 07:53:48 PM
I hate Czerny, but I have to do that for the exam. I have to practice Op 740 no 4. Can anyone help me organize how to practice this piece? (should I call it a piece?) I cannot get it up to speed and my right hand is tight just in the middle of the piece.

I am quite interested in helping you, vakulchai, but I cannot seem to find an Op 740 anywhere  ???

it is subtitled "the art of finger dexterity", if that helps you m1469.

I would try:

1) playing slowly, clearly and loudly

2) playing faster and lightly in groups, like one beat at a time, then two, then a measure, etc.

Theses exercises are actually not unmusical.  They aim not at emotional depth but at a sort of pleasant gracefulness.

Ah, one of the nastier ones (at least for me) and it comes very early in the opus.

First, ignore the metronome marking. 108 is extraordinarily fast and very few of us are Libetta.

Follow, westley's suggestions and remember to keep a very flexible and supple wrist.

The good thing about Czerny is he repeats himself.....A LOT, so learning notes is usually not a problem.

Thank you for all kind of help. I upload the scores here in case that someone don't have to scores. https://www.savefile.com/projects/789450

What would the speed do you recommend?

My piano teacher insists me to play it very slowly, but i did not see any improvement.

I think if you can get it up to anywhere between 84 - 92 with clean articulation it would be terrific.
