How much do you charge for piano lessons in washington state? I don't want to be charging way more or less then the people around me. I'm thinking 10 to 12 dollars for an hour lesson.

Oh no, no. I would say that you would want to charge that much (at the
least
) per
HALF an HOUR
.
But, we can look into it and find out for sure. In the meatime, welcome to the business
. Have you been having a teacher of your own in your current area ?

mushy7, I teach in Washington State and charge $15 for a 30 minute lesson!! And this is on the low end. Most charge from about $10 on up to $30 and more for a 30 minute lesson!! For an hour lesson, you should charge a minimum of $20 or more.

Mainly because I thought that if you were taking lessons, that would give you at least one point of reference on how much teachers charge, that's all. Why aren't you taking lessons right now ? Also, welcome to the forum

I'm in Washington state, and because I'm a high school student, I only charge $40 per month, for weekly half-hour lessons. It amounts to $20 an hour. And that's on the LOW end.
My teacher, however, is really phenomenal. She has taken college piano courses and enters us in competitions. Her tuition is about $100 per month for weekly 45 min. lessons.
So I guess it depends on how good of a teacher you are.

I live in Washington State (western washington, but rural, not in a major city) and I charge $18/lesson (45 minutes). I'm a new teacher, and on the low end. I take lessons from a very experienced teacher that charges $45/hour. The other really experienced teachers in the area charge about $20/half hour lesson. I plan on raising my fees in the fall to $20/45 minute lesson. I wouldn't teach a half an hour lesson for $10-12. If you have the time to teach them...I'd extend it to 45 and charge a little higher. (even if the hourly rate is the same or lower), especially when you only have a few students because you're getting more money in the long run...and when you're completely booked then you can raise your rates (law of supply and demand!)

WOW!!!
I have recieved so much good feed back.
I'm not taking piano lessons right know because when I switced jobs it ended up paying less. Other wise I would have started to take lessons again. A little about my self, I have only taken piano lessons for a year from an amazing women and she has moved. I started out playing by ear so I had a really hard time learning how to read notes. It was a slow process but I got a little better, and that's when my piano teaher moved. But when I stopped I would practice for about 5 hours a day, and I loved it so much. Since I was practicing so much I can play a level 6 or 7 piano piece perfect and can sight read higher. I think that's a big jump. Tell me if I'm wrong. So I have this problem I don't really want to even charge the first couple kids I teach piano to because I have never tought and only took piano for a year. But I know I'm not a bad teacher becuase I have tought swimming lessons and gymnastics and have been the most recomended teacher and my old boss wants me back. But piano is so different. I love it and have such a passion for it!! Do any of you know of a piano teacher around Bonney Lake, Sumner, or Puyallup?Sorry so long I just want to start teaching and still have so much to learn. Help please!
