Today is the 50th Anniversary....

Of William Kapell's untimely death.  To any pianists and lovers of the piano, I strongly urge you to listen to this marvelous pianist.  Luckily, most of his major recordings (for RCA) were released on a box set five years ago.

I reinforce that encouragement. His Rach 3 and Prokofiev 3 are second only to M.A.,

I have recently come in possession of several Kapell gems.  A Rach 3rd from Australia about a month before his death, and a Prok 3rd with Munch and Boston also circa 1953.  If anyone's interested in these recordings (or any other non-commercially available recordings, IM me).
In addition, there's a positively demonic Prok 3rd with Stokowski (1949), that's finally available on CD.  And I would also highly, highly recommend his Brahms 1st with Mitropolous.
There's a rumour that a Thaik 1 with Ormandy exists, but alas, has not surfaced as of yet.
