How hard is it to get into Julliard Pre-College
on: March 02, 2006, 04:13:56 PM
How hard is it for a 10 to 12 year old to get into Julliard Pre-College ?

Anyone have any students try ?

What do you think they really look for in a child ?  Is it for true prodigies only or children with commitment and promise ?

I know colleges look for that -- committment, attitude, some achievement -- signs of success in the future.  If a kid can play something difficult, but they don't practice and have a bad atittude, who would bother to put up with that?

They also look for expression.  Missed notes are one thing.  Technique can be fixed.  But someone without a spark is probably not someone they would pick.

Thanks for your thoughts, Bob.  I absolutely agree with you on the "special spark" point.

Any other thoughts from anyone or personal experiences on auditioning for Pre-College ?  Trying to decide if we are really ready yet ...

Thanks !
