I have Friedman's 25/6....... not nearly as clean as Lhevinne's
He is sporadic as well. Lhevinne is basically trilling the whole time.
Lhevinne DID do octave glissandos staccato, and everyone who saw it was shocked by it
He had a huge repitoire, but never cared to perform/record much, yet he was still famous as a pianist.
That is rare.......... only monsters can maintain a rep like that (Alkan included)
BTW, I own Friedman's La Campanella, and I like him very much,
but Lhevinne's is faster in basically all sections (no joke), and FLAWLESS, not one audible mistake...Friedman definitely made several audible mistakes.
Unfortunately, my teacher just has this on record, and he has a totally different cd version which is not as good...hopefully I can get this record version. its NUTS
