Geo. D Bent
on: November 01, 2003, 05:31:09 AM
I tuned a piano today on which I find no information in the usual sources.  The name on the fallboard is Geo. D. Bent.  The middle initial is "D" not "B" as I find in some books.  Serial number is 114800.  It's a console and appears to be possibly from the 40's.   It has a Pratt & Reed action and plastic key tops.

I would like any additional information anyone can give me... particularly place of manufacture and what happened to the company.

Thanks

Hello Bob, I just bought a George P. Bent at a flea market for 280.  It's very old I think. It has 5 or 6 digits in the serial number. I found some info on the net while searching with alta vista. Mr. Bent made one model, the orchestral grand "Crown" is its name, although the one we have has that name , but it's a full size upright. After that, he sold the company to the Winter Company and the operation moved to New York.
I've been trying to tune it. I filed off the hammers til they're smooth...after taking off the tacks! It needs alot of work, but it's interesting work. Maybe I can get you some addresses on the web that would help you like they've helped me, but you can find them yourself very easily, too. What I'm wondering right now is ..what are the 2 pedals which work the levers which are inside on the right . They are disconnected on mine.
      Take Care, Steve
