sharing a meal
on: March 05, 2006, 01:48:59 PM
i started thinking that one of the best ways to make friends or to maintain the ones you have is to have a good meal together.  i guess what inspired this is a sermon i recently heard.  basically, he tied together three things  (to do a good deed, to share a meal, to talk).  you can do one, or two, or three of these things, but when put together makes a good foundation for a friendship.  of course, with really close friends, good deeds are just simple courtesy and keeping in touch.  sometimes i've lost the art of letterwriting, and have to revitalize it - and send cards more often.  some friends you lose just because you don't keep in touch.

mayla's question about musical friends is a sad fact, that we often find them and then lose them by going different paths and then they're harder to reconnect with.  i feel like i'm getting a handle finally - but we recently moved here so i didn't know anyone to start with at first.

If you are new to the area, invite everyone round for a sermon.

That should do the trick.

i bet you do with areibus.  why the disctinction?

my cat won't eat catfood very much anymore.

i will tempt you with cheese sticks.  thalbergmad, you're invited, too.  we'll just talk about music, siberian can do a few of his break dancing moves.  haven't asked hubby yet, but i think it's ok if you bring some girlfriends.  a lot of historic stuff here (but none to compare with england, i'm sure).  anyway, a fun thing to do is to go flea marketing just for music.  they have stacks of old music here and there all around.

what about sharing a drinking binge?  I've made quite a few friends while drunk, as well as spending some of the best nights i've had with my best friends drinking.  Meal's are allright, but you can't let your hair down so much and really get to know what people are really like. :o

True, it's always good to make time to sit down and chew the fat with friends. Sometimes the trouble is finding time... You can only maintain so many friendships and still hold down a job :-\.

On the topic of losing track of friends, I'm looking forward to the highschool reunion. It'll be interesting to see what people have become.

what about sharing a drinking binge?  I've made quite a few friends while drunk, as well as spending some of the best nights i've had with my best friends drinking.  Meal's are allright, but you can't let your hair down so much and really get to know what people are really like. :o

I had the problem of always running into people I'd made friends with at a pub, and not remembering them at all :o.

But I'll take a meal over a drinking binge any day. There was one large group of friends who always drank together, for years we would party every weekend... But couldn't socialize w/o alcohol, because most of us didn't really know each other, oddly. It was superficial, ya can't really go into any depth when partying... So I like to differentiate between 'drinking buddies' and actual friends.
