hey my piano is a vertegrand piano steinway k220905.  does anyone know how old it is or where i could find out?

 If that's he serial number you gave, it was made in 1923.

You can email Steinway with the serial # and they can tell you (in most cases) the date your piano was completed and the original buyer.
