posting vs not posting
on: March 12, 2006, 03:02:01 AM
why do we posters post? there are many people who just read, many who only post seldomly.

do we post for attention? to be heard? for the fun of this form of socializing?

why do we do it, and why am i randomly making this post?

i hilariously have no pants on, because i am getting ready for bed, i see.

I was a watcher for a long time before coming a poster.

Looking at the amount of members here, there must be a lot of people who do not post.

That is a shame really.

do they not have anything to say? no wish to share their insights? or are intimidated by us legendary members who have set such a high standard of insightful genius?

possibly

There are times when I want to post but English is always an obstacle. The same might be for a lot of other members who cannot communicate well because of language barriers.

it depends on whether i could be bothered logging on or not... even then i'd generally need to be able to say something to reply.  In many topics, that involves actually having something intelligent or useful to say, whereas in topics like this I can ramble on and no one will particularly listen to me so I can post without fear

we read posts because we learn a lot from different views.

on the other hand, we read, reply, and/or post new questions because we want to contribute to the discussions. no matter how nonsense we might feel our post is, they contribute a lot.:) even jokes within serious discussions can mean a lot through their implied feelings/thoughts, unless the joke is really out of context thus making that joke exclusively an ice breaker in purpose.

we have opinions as persons of different backgrounds and the main objective why an opinion exists is for it to be heard. an opinion not expressed is therefore non-existent and useless and has no place in this forum (actually, they don't take space). that means any kept reaction to a post you've read is meaningless, unless you say it.

posting to get attention or to socialize is inevitable in forums. it should not be the primary reason to post, but at the same time, it is an integral part of the primary reason which is to contribute. they make discussions much more fun to do. :)

Another reason why I post here is because I dont have any friends or family who I can discuss this type of music with. My friends are all most happy when they're sat behind a PS2 with a joint and a can of grog in hand.

So for me, posting on forums is about being able to chew the cud with people who can relate to a particular interest or aspect of my life that my real life aquaintences cant.

that is absolutely true... ive found that too... i love to talk about music... the shame is though that i'm embarassed to talk about it to my piano teacher, friends at school (all but one) and my family aren't interested, my mum is though... but not as in depth as me... my grandma knows a bit - i always wonder "why didnt my grandma go to see rachmaninov (for example) live when he was doing a concert?" - i'd travel to new york to see him play any day! and i live in the UK

I don't post that often because I'm either busy, lazy, or tired. Mostly tired. I read these forums a lot while I compose, but most of the time, I'm too damn tired to post anything myself that actually sounds like it was written by a native English speaker.

Just like that  :o

You must tell me which button it is, I want to 'click' it.

...'Anything but piano'....sounds unbelievable...does such a place really exist? This challenges the notion of space and time !  :o

I usually post either because I think I may be able to help somebody or because I think somebody might help me. The former cases outnumber the latter by about ten to one at present, but as I become old, feeble and forgetful this ratio may change dramatically.
