Learning Repetitions
on: March 14, 2006, 09:35:26 AM
I have trouble with bars of music that have many repetitions of the same pattern. For example I am planning to learn ''China Gates'' by John Adams soon and this will require playing repeated bar/s until it switches. I find it difficult to memorise (keep track of) the number of times I have to repeat it. I usually count each one out in my head every time I play it (remembering the number of times to repeat) which requires judgement every time.
Is this the right thing to do? Any other methods?

Maybe you are playing too mechanical?
Did you play the regular accents, that are appended usually on every first note of every bar?
Is it really both hands having repetitive pattern?
You usually dont need to count how many bars consciously, because if you play it musically, you can feel where you are.
