I've got a Clavinova CLP-950 that's always worked pretty well, but lately some of the key have become very sluggish and sticky. They're very stiff. When you press them down they don't bounce back up but only slowly rise back to position. In some cases, they stay stuck down. Needless to say, the keyboard is becoming unplayable.
Does anyone know why this is happening, or what needs to be done to fix it?
*UPDATE*
The local Clavinova tech came to my house today with a new keyboard. It was pretty easy to replace; just unscrew a bunch of stuff, take the old keyboard out, and put the new one in. The Clavinova plays as good as new.
This didn't cost me a cent either. Yamaha replaced the kayboard for free, and they also were paying the tech for his time. The problem was a known issue to them on several model numbers of Clavinovas; the problem was that the lubricant of the key pivot softened and weakened and plastic pivot, which then would crack, causing the kay to lean sideways and play sluggishly and stick down. Yamaha has fixed the lubricant problem, so I shouldn't have this happen again!
