stress
on: March 30, 2006, 10:00:14 PM
i was watching PBS last night and it was this program on how stress keeps us from healing flesh wounds and such. right now i'm trying to prepare for the "russian music competition" in san jose (if anyone knows what that is) and i'm farely stressed out because i have to learn and memorize my entire program in just sliiightly over a month. does anyone know if stress has the same effect on learning piano pieces? like if i'm stressed out, will i not be able to learn as fast as i would otherwise?

Well, it can't help!  Look on the forum, there is a thread here concerning stress.

I've got good news and bad news. The bad news is you make your own stress, the good news is, you make your own stress.

Don't worry, nervouswreck.

If your competition is in a month, it's better you are stressed now: you have the opportunity to practice your ass off with your programme, and that's also what I would recommend...

If you wouldn't be stressed now, you would instead become a panic disaster the days just before the competition. But now, you have a great chance of avoiding that.

This kind of "meaningful stress" that you are experiencing now, is only to your advantage. If you practice, that is.

Good luck, and aim for the stars!
