I'm curious as to what film most people around hear find to be their favourtie music/musician film. For example, Amadeus, The Pianist, and Ray.  I'm looking for some good movies to watch!

Pretty much anything by Thomas Newman goes down well with me. Elliot Goldenthal is another favorite, I loved the way he seems to mix influences in such a seemless way. His score for Alien 3 was spin chilling (pity the film wasnt!).

Hermann has to get a mention to, as his score for Hitchcock were pretty amazing.

So much good film music though, its probably my favorite genre. The blend of styles makes it some of the most innovative music the has ever been. I mean, where else are you going to hear tonal orchestral music, with 20th century atonal, with contempary electronic?

Yes, I did mean movies about music, sorry about the confusion!  I'm not familiar with any of the titles anyone has mentioned, what are they about?

Music from the Inside Out - but I doin't think it's available on DVD - you'll have to find a place that's playing it, I think.  It's pretty wonderful.

There are a couple of pianist related horror films which i think are excellent.

Check out "Mephisto Waltz" and "The Beast with 5 Fingers"

Ken Russell's "Song of Summer", I think.  According to Eric Fenby, Max Adrian's performance as Delius was almost perfectly true to life.

"Young Man with a Horn". Loosely based on the life of Jazz trumpeter Bix Beiderbecke, starring Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, Doris Day and Hoagy Carmichael.

Kind of hokey, but I love it.  :)
