Budget:$10000, grand piano for practice

Your choice will be? including second hand...
I have an idea: Yamaha C3, but what will be the reasonable price?
If there are other choices, what will be your preference?
Thanks !!  ;)

Hi chopinard,

It's a matter of a piano that feels right to you, but last year my parents bought a new Kohler & Campbell 6'1" grand for about $11,000.  I think it sounds quite wonderful, and the action is even.  Overall, a very nice piano.

K&C is sold by Steinway dealers and is actually a Korean piano made by Samick.  I liked the 6'1" piano much better than any of the smaller ones.

Have fun!
Teresa

K&C is not a captive brand of Steinway, nor do they have exclusive rights to the piano. Many Steinway dealers took them on before the Essex (Pearl River) piano was introduced.

K&C is sold by many dealers as an entry level to step-up line.

I just purchsed a 1985 Yamaha C3 today! The action is to DIE for, and the only thing I can complain about is it has the older key style, the type without the WPC keys.

It was formerly owned by an orchestra, and then owned by a lady who majored in music from James Madison University.

$10000 for a used Yamaha C3? um... I think it's quite impossible, unless you are lucky (and of course, the piano has to be in good condition.) If you are into the C-series, if I were you, I'd probably look more realistically into a used C2 or C1 with your budget. But, hey, I've gotten a C2 myself, it's great! A little tip to get the bargain you deserve: walk around school campuses, go to their music departments, ask your piano teacher, or whatever you can think of, but don't buy from dealers! They rip people off, so bad.

sorry to be a bit off topic, but how much do new medium sized (about 6-8 ft) steinways, bosendorfers and yamahas cost? and which is the best buy for a tropical sort of climate?
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

Life is like a piano, what you get out of it depends on how you play it

Here she is :). Her sound is amazing, and there is not ONE nick or real scratch on the entire thing. Tis a thing of beauty.

We bought it from a family who bought it from a symphony up in Boston.

For... $10000.

The deal we got was absolutly incredible, as we had the area's most reputable technician take a look at it before we bought it. (The guy is good, he was the only guy in the area who was allowed to rebuild my cousin's piano teacher's concert steinway)

I am not sure hoe much it cost for medium sized pianos as prices varies from country to country. None of this piano will be in good shape if it is not maintain at the right RH. Regards
