Grand star wars fantasy
on: April 08, 2006, 07:47:36 PM
hey people,

I just finished a concert fantasy on the theme's of Star Wars, and I'm putting it now in my computer. I think some of you might be interested in 'meeting' between virtuoso playing and the music of mr. Williams;

anyways, the order is this: main theme-duel of the fates-imperial march-tiefighter theme-love theme 'across the world' - reprise of main theme-coda.

Let me know what you think about it. I'm studying it now, hopefully I'll be able to record it in some weeks...

You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

oh i found it in the audition room. well done.
Though bear in mind you shouldn't write difficult passages just for the sake of virtuosity. There should always be some meaning behind it, no matter how subtle it is.

Eg, Why do you have scales at this particular moment? what are the purposes of them, what is it that you want to achieve with them, or are they there purely for show? Just an example, but hope you understand what i mean.  Duel of fates is harder than it ought to be. It would be hard to get that up to speed. And if it's too slow it drags the music down, and loses the tension that it requires. I'm just judging on the sample pages. but if i see the rest i might have a few more comments. Nice job. Good to see another proud JW fan!

It's surely not more difficult then Rigoletto or other Liszt-operatic fantasies. and in the duel part it's the idea of playing with your right hand the semiquaver motive, and with your left hand first the bass and then jump over right hand to play the melodie. like this it's actually not so difficult :-)

considering the virtuosity, the arpeggio's at the end of the main theme are a pianistic translation of harp and strings (listen to the official star wars 'main theme') and for the rest I only used one scale to connect the duel with the imperial march; the original music is most of the time written for a huge huge orchestra, so to get all the atmospheric sounds you need a little more notes. And there are in my opinion allready weigh too much 'simple' and 'beginner level' transcriptions of this or other popular themes...why fear a bit of practicing :-) ??

good luck!

ITS REALLY WELL DONE FOR WHAT IT IS, BUT I ACTUALLY FEEL THE EXACT OPPISITE true...of what frederic says

i mean, id enjoy it sounding more virtuoso, all the melodies are there by in liszt's fantasies the piano is treated like its own orchestra, with many colours, using 3rds and scales and more variety of pianistic figurations might help this being achieved, because contrary to what freddyboy says here, it actually sounds a little plain, pianistically speaking, as compared to what liszt may have done.

well...if i'd be liszt, I wouldn't be posting messages here ...LOL
thx for the comments anyway, mr. Frederic as well, I might change some things in the future after having it played a few times in concert.
First public performance will be somewhere mid june (i'm preparing the program right now), so if I find that things are sounding cooler with another texture or something I'll probably change them.
But that's for the future to find out;
I adore mr. Volodos' little excursions, so that's where I usually get my inspiration  :)

If you are interested in the Star Wars music than check out this link - https://www.pianothemes.com/starwars5.html

It has a pretty good transciption of the ''Asteroid'' theme from Empire Strikes Back.
