Piano Instructional Software
on: April 11, 2006, 05:49:08 AM
I have been interested in learning to play piano for quite awhile but I'm concerned that I wont be able to afford lessons from a good teacher. I've called around and found that reputable teachers who specialize in what I'm wanting to learn (theory and composition as well as mastery of the piano) generally charge around $50/hr. This means an additional $200 per month (for weekly lessons) which I can't even come close to affording. Even if take half as many lessons or take half hour lessons, $100 is still pretty tough to come up with. I could be wrong but it seems like software has the potential to come pretty close to replacing a good teacher... but I don't know if there are any well written virtual piano teacher apps out there. I did some searching but the stuff I found looked pretty cheesey. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!
Find another teacher that charges less! I think asking a paino student (in a school or uiversity program) or even High school can cetainly help a beginner learn the fundamentals of piano. Think of those CD like those language CD, "learn Fraench in 2 weeks etc" You might be able to say a few words but you can't really function because there isn't anyone there to guide you along the right path. I'm suggesting a Student pianist because they will likely charge less because they have less experience but that isn't always a drawback. Think of it as learning together. Most students have a great deal of energy and passion and could be an excellent solution to your monetary problem.
